We are graphic designers for a start-up in San Diego called Artistic Hub, parent company of Collar Free. Working for a start-up has been everything we hoped it would be: long hours, close quarters and drinks with the boss on Fridays. Creating a t-shirt company that works directly with designers from all over the world has brought a lot of new design inspiration. Now Artistic Hub lets us expand this concept and share the design community with bands, brands and more. As an interactive marketing company, naturally we LIVE on the computer and this blog is a place where we escape the daily grind and share all of our fun finds about design, art, marketing and more. Blog, Blog, Blog it all!

About Mel:

I love graphic design, but I am an artist at heart. I enjoy the smell of turpentine, don’t mind the paint stains on my clothes and I think a blank canvas is the hottest thing in the world. Live music, lyrical dance and the beach are my friends and often my therapy. I thrive on interaction with new people and my travels have been my inspiration for creation.

About Michelle:

I love working in a field that is so rewarding. I design by day and make books by night. I go bananas for simplistic design, white space, sans serif, neons and anything made by hand. Stickers, design magazines and rss feeds make my day that much better. I crave traveling and exploring new places that make me more inspired than ever to create and share my own art.

My recent work builds upon the theme of myth vs. memory which has been the focus of past paintings and sculptures. I have used the process of story telling to introduce the viewer my own memory and its conflict with self perpetuated folklore, as it is related to my development as an artist.
In these paintings, I have literally projected text on to the canvas in an enlarged diary form. These snippets of personal narrative have been abstracted through color patterns and text distortion. Despite the scale, visibility and appeal of color, the abstractions are meant to obstruct. It gets between the audience and the story much like the way romanticism; ego and drama tend to taint our recollections.
