Featured Artist: Mike Stilkey

Mike Stilkey. His work is such a treat. I find the book arts is a bit of a lost art. He embraces materials that may be overlooked to use, such as book covers and vintage book pages. From installations to paintings his work has the ability to absorb the viewer. His images tell stories and his work is full of beautiful mixed media texture with an undertone of whimsical melancholy, longing, and despair. His work is  flooded with depth and mystery that entices the viewer to get to know his ambiguous characters and wonder about their lives in their unusual settings.

Pencil Portraits by Christian Faur

Christian Faur has assembled thousands of wax pencils in varying colors and shades to produce these beautiful, haunting works. The individual “pixels” are precisely stacked into wooden frames to produce this unique art that balances the qualities of photography and sculpture. Love him!

Water Buff by Michelle Mellem

Oh ya baby!!  We never thought this day would come at Collar Free, but the first neon water buffalo shirt in kelly green is here! You can find this shirt in select boutiques across the U.S and may be able to find it in your local Buffalo Exchange. I designed this shirt shortly after motorbiking through northeast Vietnam. The Vietnamese use the water buffalos for all of their heavy lifting and plowing the rice patties. I had to pay homage to the water buff! Hope you love it as much as we do.

waterbuffStay tuned, we may be giving a few of these limited edition prints away.

Is your dog bulimic?

Those poor grass-eating vomiting San Franciscan dogs. They can’t help it they have low self esteem and need to see a counselor. Thankfully the community has gathered together to help address this dangerous and potentially deadly problem. But how do you think they get their paw down their throat?

Zank on “Good Morning San Diego” KUSI

I had the privilege this weekend to watch a friend and awesome musician, Zank,  play on the “Good Morning San Diego” KUSI  morning show on Sunday. It was so interesting to see how the news works. From how they setup their shots to interviewing guests everything runs so smoothly. The guys did a great job and the music sounded awesome. Watch the live show here.

kusi

We want to see you at the next few shows! If you’re in NYC holla at Zank. He’ll be there out there playing a duo-acoustic show on July 31st at Bar 169. Save the date for September 20th. He’ll be playing The Acoustic Alliance at Brick by Brick in San Diego.
