Zank Live at the Beauty Bar SD

Our favorite local musician Zank is playing a show tonight at The Beauty Bar in San Diego with fellow musicians, Anthony Molinaro, Allen Mautner & Chad Farran from Superunloader . If you’re in town we’d love to see you come out and support local music and maybe spruce up your nails at the same time! To get an idea of what an acoustic orgasm sounds like check out their video from the studio this weekend. I was lucky enough to watch these guys record a new demo at Big Fish studios in Escondido on Saturday. What a treat! Hope to see you there. zank_BeautyBar22Oct09

Zank on “Good Morning San Diego” KUSI

I had the privilege this weekend to watch a friend and awesome musician, Zank,  play on the “Good Morning San Diego” KUSI  morning show on Sunday. It was so interesting to see how the news works. From how they setup their shots to interviewing guests everything runs so smoothly. The guys did a great job and the music sounded awesome. Watch the live show here.

We want to see you at the next few shows! If you’re in NYC holla at Zank. He’ll be there out there playing a duo-acoustic show on July 31st at Bar 169. Save the date for September 20th. He’ll be playing The Acoustic Alliance at Brick by Brick in San Diego.

Gluhwein and The Uglysuit

decembernightsWe made it out to December nights this weekend and it was amazing. I’m lucky enough to be able to walk to Balboa Park from mi casa, which was convenient as the event brought approx 300,000 people and too many cars. Balboa Park was busting at the seams with families of all shapes and sizes. Great for people watching. :) The international houses opened their doors and you could get Lebanese food, Chinese food, Scottish food… anything your heart desired. They had a full carnival with a Ferris wheel, vendors selling gifts and performances by dance teams and choirs. What an event. My favorites were the Peruvian dance, Indian dance and the blind choir.

The second night I tried some Gluhwein (warm wine w/brandy and other fun ingredients) and it was the perfect drink for a cool winter night. Too bad it was warm in SD and I was sweating in my jacket… damn global warming! After the park we headed to the Casbah to see The Uglysuit perform. We actually met them outside and they helped us get 2 of our group in because they were sold out. Here is Zank and The guys from The Uglysuit. uglysuitsmSo down to earth, so chill and their music was amazing!  Check out The Uglysuit Website or their MySpace. Here we are rockin’ out. Or at least I am! theuglysuit2

Distressing Type in Illustrator

When I see something cool online I’m always telling Mel to write a blog about this, make a shirt look like that, or asking her to find different tutorials that are awesome (that I’m too lazy to find).  She saved the day again today! I’ve been trying to find out an easy way in illustrator to distress type without bringing it into Photoshop. She sent me a link to this tutorial on DzyneO about distressing type that really helped my project get finalized.  Check it out:

Step 1. Type something that you’d like to distress. Open the brushes palette

Step 2. With the pen or the brush tool draw lines over your text in a different color (this color won’t be seen at the end, it helps with separation of images) until you receive the desired effect. Apply different stroke sizes to add variation in your design.

Step 3. Outline the text and group. (Type>Create Outlines) (ctrl+g)

Step 4. Select all strokes created and go to Object>Expand Appearance

Step 5. Open the Pathfinder tool and select everything (ctrl+a). In the pathfinder palette click on merge. Make sure that the stroke color is selected in the fill color. Go to the toolbar and click Select>Same>Fill Color and delete the selection. (I promise it works, it took me a few trys to figure it out, so don’t give up)

Step 6. Your Final Image!

I’m working on some t-shirts for our favorite local singer/songwriter Zank. Which design do you like? I can’t decide.

Hope this helps!
